A wild ride in the North Atlantic.

Researching in the North Atlantic

In 2001 I had the great opportunity to join a research cruise on the RRS Discovery, the one built in 1962. We sailed out of Greenock in Scotland and spent almost 4 weeks 'cruising' the North Atlantic, taking water samples, collecting samples using Aries 4, deploying Argo floats, and other fun stuff.

We got a bit battered by the weather and had to spend several days heaved to, while riding out a storm.

Finally we arrived in Iceland, where we changed out the research crew, explored the island for 36 hours and then flew back to the UK.
