Aloha from Hawai'i
USA | 2005
In May 2005 I had the great fortune to get accepted to attend a weeklong symposium for recent PhD graduate in the wider field of Oceanography. It took place in Waikoloa on the island of Hawaii, also known as 'The Big Island', so as to not confuse it with the name of the US state that it is part of. We spent a week in Waikoloa with our peers talking ocean science, after which I travelled the island with two friends just exploring.
Visiting the lava fields and walking up to and watching the lava ooze out of the mountain was certainly one of the most memorable moments.
